Keegan Muir, PBHS'S GET Headboy
KEEGAN is well on his way to living his motto in life - `A son's only job is to make his father proud'. As a headboy at PBHS, there is no doubt Keegan's father is proud, but Keegan has not let his position of authority change his oulook on life. "Being headboy means more than having my name immortalised on the Honours Board. It's about making a lasting impression on fellow learners and the community. I must lead from the front, set the example and be the best I can be." He values his team of prefects and has a goal of changing the public's perception of the school. "I want the way the school is seen from the outside to change. Future learners, parents, staff, rival schools and the community in general, must see the school in a positive light. Their perception of the school must be changed forever, for the good." As far as his fellow learners are concerned, Keegan wants to address the issue of learners not being involved in sport and cultural activities. He wants PBHS to be involved in the community and become a recognised force in the classroom and on the sports field. "PBHS must get back to the top and be recognised by learners and outsiders as a school of high standards. There is a lack of interest among many boys but, with my fellow headboy Sam Mkhize, and the prefects, we want to bring dramatic change, by leading from the front and standing tall for PBHS." Away from his headboy duties, Keegan plays guitar and drums, playing rhythm guitar in a band, NonChalant. He gets to play at Splashy Fen this year and also enjoys art, photography and design. He is also a lomographer, keeping analogue, film photography alive. Visit www.lomography.com to see what it's all about.
Sam Mkhize, PBHS's FET Headboy.
FOR Sam, being headboy at PBHS is a dream come true, thanks to what he experienced in Grade 7. "The headboy of PBHS came and spoke at my junior school and how he conducted himself and the pride he had for PBHS lit a spark of ambition for me. I also wanted to achieve and being headboy is an honour and something all boys at the school should strive for." Sam shares Keegans's vision of reviving PBHS's spirit and pride. With his enthusiasm, respect and pride for the school, mixed with plenty laughs and a sense of humour, he is confident of achieveing his goal. "Changing the learners' mindset is a top priority. We want all learners to be involved with the school - sport, cultural, academic - and instill a sense of belonging. We want to work closely with the old boys' committee, getting past pupils to play an active role in our quest to change the school, reigniting the spirit in different generations." Pride for PBHS is a vital element in Sam's quest as this initiates belief in the school, staff and fellow pupils. "It won't happen overnight and will be met with resistance, but with determination and communication, we will achieve our goal." After school, Sam is chilled and relaxed, enjoying his friends and supporting the Blue Bulls. He loves listening to music, especially R&B and House and his favourite song at the moment is Alicia Keys' Try sleeping with a broken heart. Besides supporting and playing rugby, he enjoys cricket and prides himself on being an undisputed putt-putt champion. He also enjoys public speaking, a vital string in his bow as headboy.
