“South African football players who have dreamed of playing in the English Premier League may now realise it with the launch of the British Football Academy, which will scout for local talent to play in the strongest ranked league in the world”. (Mail and Guardian, 2023)
“Three football-mad British friends, now business partners, John Read, Peter Coyle and Ian Kilbride, have always wondered why only a handful of South African players have made it to the English Premier League and decided to dig deep to unearth the country’s untapped talent.” (Mail and Guardian, 2023).
The British Football Academy (BFA), regarded as an empowering platform for the youth and those that show signs of talent and hard work that sets them apart. The BFA aims to prepare them for a career in professional football. With a network that includes almost all professional clubs in continental Europe and England, especially the English Premier League which is widely regarded and recognized. Each gifted athlete that has been identified by the recruiters of the footballing academy has a wide range of possibilities and fair opportunities.

The BFA structure is affiliated and measured by the South African Football Association (SAFA), making sure that standards are kept to an optimal high for safety, ethics, and professionalism. In addition to complying to local Football Association standards, the Academy strictly follows the Child Safeguarding Standards set by the South African and English Footballing Associations.
The British Football Academy do not just mould players, but they produce holistically developed individuals that ready to tackle the challenges on and off the pitch, while working towards the ultimate dream - to play in the professional leagues.

The British Football Academy each year awards an average of 20 gifted athletes with football scholarships to study at the highly respected Pinetown Boys’ High School, preparing a platform that nurtures both academic competence and athletic talent.
Set up by three businessmen, John Read and Peter Coyle who are based in London, and Ian Kilbride, who is based in Cape Town, the BFA is determined to create a pathway to the English Premier League for talented young South Africans.
All three founders are passionate about football and education. Education is the lifeblood of opportunity, and sport – football in particular – can change lives and whole communities. Players from various places from the world find their way to the English Premier League, but very few South Africans do.
The BFA is determined to change that and give new opportunities for local boys who have the talent, drive and hunger to succeed as professional footballers.
The BFA is not tied to any British Club, so it is truly independent. The founder of BFA, Read remarked that across the many countries in Africa that produce players that end up in The English Premier League, many of these countries are much smaller in size and population than South Africa surely the kind of talent needed for the EPL can be unearthed in this country (South Africa) with the correct structures in place.
